Why Do We Sing Spontaneously?

Four12 Global Adam Hellyer, WORSHIP

Out Of Love For God

“Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.” Psalm 149:1

If a husband speaks to his wife in nothing but song lyrics and quotes from Shakespeare, romantic as his intentions might be, the wife will not stay impressed for long. In an intimate relationship spontaneous compliments, and unrehearsed displays of affection, are important because these unguarded moments show what is really in our heart.

With God it is the same. It’s fine singing the songs the worship team have picked, if they are sung sincerely out of love to the Lord. But we can all go a step further. During the breaks between songs, together, we can all sing spontaneously, in our mother tongue or in a tongue the Spirit gives us. If the latter pray to interpret, so you can use what the spirit has revealed to further your worship of the Father.

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord” Ephesians 5:19

Today if you have never sung out your own song to God in worship, take the plunge! Sing to the Lord a new song.
