The world says we are just victims of our circumstances. God says something different! We have felt God calling the youth be empowered by Him! Dead to self, alive to Christ (Romans 6:11)!
It has been an exciting past few months for us as a youth group in Oxygen Life Church. We are known as Combustion, a group of teens living wildly for Jesus! We have been meeting at a school clubhouse for the past while, and at the start of this new year we finally got to move into our very own building. It’s so cool to see how the teens have been catching the heart to be linked into our local church!
Last year God did a big work into the teens’ lives in the area of identity. Now that our identity is rooted in Christ, we are starting to focus on what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus; for the past few weeks we’ve been looking at the value of each person in the eyes of God. Once we catch God’s heart for people we automatically start asking questions, like ‘How do we impact our families, friends, schools, and city?’ This past term one of the leaders had a prophetic picture of God’s value for a new girl at that night’s meeting. She ended up sharing in front of everyone how accurate it was, because she had been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, and people at school had been telling her to
We are seeing such a strengthening of teens currently. Guys and girls being linked into the local church, envisioned for what God has planned for them and then asking God to use them in their different areas of influence. We are trusting that the teens would catch a heart to represent Jesus to people. One of the youth guys who matriculated last year was accepted to study medicine in Stellenbosch; he felt God lead him to turn it down and stay in PE to purely lay down his life to serve. What an example to his peers and high schoolers in grades below him! My current prayer for the teens is that their hearts would burn with a hunger to know God and make Him known, and to say like Paul says:
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him. (Philippians 3:8-9 NIV)
