Seeking Stillness in Africa

Anyone who has travelled in Africa will know that being still is quite a foreign concept there. Between the overpopulated cities, loud communications, crazy traffic, 4 am rooster calls, all-night parties, and excited children as far as the eye can see, a moment of peace is a blessing from above.

We kicked off the Four12 outreach into Malawi by encouraging the saints (and pastors) to seek the face of Jesus for themselves and to be led by the Holy Spirit in all that they do. Although it seems such a simple concept, we can often get so caught up in meetings and church culture that we don’t take the time to sit quietly at Jesus’ feet. We can rush ahead of the Holy Spirit and miss the quiet voice of the Shepherd.

It is hard work to keep the churches strong and so many are falling away. I saw the beauty of Four12 in this battle – there is strength in unity and partnership.

After 4 days of our Four12 training time, and a day off in Lilongwe, we split up into 3 teams and headed for Kande Village, Dedza and Shire Valley to connect with and encourage local churches there.

There we saw people get saved, healed, delivered, and restored, but we also got an insight into the apostolic. Many times when Paul wrote to the churches, there was a warning or a rebuke when they weren’t doing so well. There was also an encouragement to keep running the race. It is hard work to keep the churches strong and so many are falling away. I saw the beauty of Four12 in this battle – there is strength in unity and partnership.

A few highlights from this trip

These are moments I will treasure:

  • Seeing one of our team members being delivered from fear and going on to prophesy over the ladies and then cast out demons;
  • Praying for healing and witnessing a lady receive her sight back and being able to read her Bible again;
  • Preaching off the bonnet of a Land Rover, reminding a whole village about God’s love for them;
  • Worshipping with prostitutes trapped in slavery;
  • And finally, personal time spent at the feet of Jesus, soaking in His love and listening for His voice.

‘Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth’ (Psalm 46:10)
