– The Isle of Man’s Chris Staples, coining a term for Christians who own iPhones. The only problem was no iPhone owner could write it down, because there was no more memory and their battery had died.

“I know Andrew Selley is secretly very jealous of my charismatic personality.”
– That was Russell Fraser, arguably one of Four12’s calmest, kindest and most gentle elders. He also said it with the relaxed tone of someone soaking in a hot bath inside an Alaskan log cabin, which made it even funnier.

“The false gospels are like a wooden sword against the enemy; they will never help you to love God like you should.”
– In the first morning session, Michael d’Offay trained his rifle sights on the self-help gospel and the therapeutic gospel, exposing them as the distortion of truth that they are. The church needs men and women who will stand up and call out these ear-tickling heresies, and we’re blessed to have many among us who will do just that.

“I don’t want to offend any of you, but actually I do.”
– Michael saying what every preacher thinks from time to time.

“We’re at a conference, man!”
-Michael again, after being howled at by frantically scribbling note-takers for going through his points too fast. In their defense, he was reading them like an auctioneer on Red Bull.

“When Disney World opened in 1971, five years after Walt Disney died, a man said to Disney’s widow: ‘Isn’t it a shame he didn’t live to see this?’ She replied to him, ‘He did see it. That’s why it’s here.'”
– With one poignant anecdote in the afternoon session, Jonathan Stanfield summed up what we’re doing: we’re called to build, not just to bless. To see what should be, and get on with the work of building. It was quite brilliant, and undoubtedly a key word for many.

And so the second day of the conference is over, and just one more to go. By the power of God and with the help of the Holy Spirit’s gifts, we really are going from glory to glory.
