Catching Up with Oxygen Life

Greetings from the beautiful, and often windy, city of Port Elizabeth on the eastern tip of Southern Africa!

We here, at Oxygen Life Church, have been experiencing ‘the wind of the Spirit” blowing on us in such wonderful and fresh ways. We have recently felt His dynamic touch leading us to increasingly deeper places of the His presence in our corporate times, bringing a sanctifying of hearts and a call for people to live holy and purposed lives for our glorious Lord. We have seen and celebrated marriages being turned around, leaders getting reinvigorated and saints laying down their lives afresh and saying “count me in” to make an impact for the King of Kings!

One particular area where we have seen a real stirring in is the area of prayer. This year we felt led by the Lord to start our own prayer weekend called ‘33three’ from Jeremiah 33:3 which says: “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”  For 72 continuous hours, once a month, each community (our home groups) commit to hour slots throughout the course of the weekend to pray. This has resulted in the church rallying together and calling out to Jesus in one unified voice for Him to change lives and to revolutionise our city for His glory! We are convinced that prayers of faith move the hand of our powerful God and that much of what He is doing in our midst is as a result of us seeking His face and crying out for His Kingdom to be established in increasing measures amongst us.

Another area of fruitfulness for us has been in going and reaching out beyond our own context. A bunch of passionate Oxygen Lifers have recently gone on outreaches to churches in East London, Mossel Bay, Cape Town, and Klerksdorp to connect with, encourage, and help strengthen fellow Saints. An impactful time was had by all and every outreach has seen guys come back with testimonies of God’s transforming love and grace.  Another way that we are reaching out in is through our communities. We currently have 14 communities running ‘Alpha courses’ across the city for eight to ten weeks. People have invited unsaved family, friends, and work colleagues to these meetings and we have seen such an incredible response! Our Campus Congregation spread the news among our local university and saw about 50 new faces come to the first meeting. We are trusting God for souls to be saved and lives to be restored in His incredible mercy and grace.

The Lord is doing a wonderful work in our youth too. Combustion (that’s our youth group’s name) meet every Friday evening and our teenagers are so hungry for more of God. The worship times have been powerful where His presence has been so tangible and has touched young hearts. We are trusting God to raise up a young, radical generation that will burn red hot for Jesus and change the spiritual atmosphere of their schools. Yes, Lord!

May our awesome God and Saviour empower and strengthen us all in His rich love and grace as we continue to serve Him flat out for His glory.
