Why Do We Sing Spontaneously?

‘Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.’ (Psalm 149:1)

Sing Spontaneously to Show Your Love

If a husband speaks to his wife in nothing but song lyrics and quotes from Shakespeare, romantic as his intentions might be, the wife will not stay impressed for long. In an intimate relationship, spontaneous compliments and unrehearsed displays of affection are important because these unguarded moments show what is really in our heart.

It is the same with God. It’s fine singing the songs the worship team has picked if they are sung out of a sincere love for the Lord. But we can all go a step further. During the breaks between songs, we can all sing spontaneously together, in our mother tongue or in a tongue the Spirit gives us. If the latter, pray for an interpretation, so you can use what the Spirit has revealed to further your worship of the Father.

‘Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord’ (Ephesians 5:19)

If you have never sung out your own song to God in worship, take the plunge today! Sing to the Lord a new song.
